AIR Modernism | open call for residents of Chemnitz, Tbilisi and Wrocław. [polski poniżej] Are your creative or research activities focused on the theory and practice of modernism? Culture Zone Wrocław in cooperation with partners from two cities has created an interdisciplinary residential project AIR Modernism. Together with Chemnitz 2025 and Tbilisi Architecture Biennial / თბილისის არქიტექტურის ბიენალე, we invite artists from various fields, as well as architects, designers and researchers, to participate in the September residency in Wroclaw [Wroclove], and in the future also Chemnitz and Tbilisi. Project AIR Modernism is an international artist residency project, that includes networking to Polish, German and Georgian arts and cultural institutions and professionals. Chosen residents will have the opportunity to conduct a field study, based on which they will create their own research/artistic notes. This residency is dedicated to those working in visual arts/ design/architecture/science and gives them the opportunity to live and work in Wrocław (2020), and in the future to visit Chemnitz and Tbilisi. This is an invitation to apply for those who have an interdisciplinary approach to culture. The main purpose of the residency is the promotion of international dialogue between residents of different disciplines, with a specific interest in projects focusing on theory of modernism as a global movement that influences Chemnitz and Wrocław and Tbilisi in the 20th century. The reference point is the consideration on how the influence of modernist heritage has changed and changed over the years. What impact did the changing city statuses have on this - from centers / capitals to the periphery and vice versa? We look at its individual stages with a critical eye, according to how is the concept understood in different regions? There is no doubt that we have observed various modernisms, what can we do today is to indicate different points of view? An equally important aspect is also the impact of it on the present day (not only on design but also arts etc.). Such a context leads also to other topics like sustainable design and art practices in urban areas nowadays and social aspects of art, design and architecture. The aim of the residency is to map and draft how these 3 cities reflected panEuropean ideas, what was their position, how this position changed in time and how the dimension of time and space (East/West) influenced modernism and its reception. Call for proposals: 20.08.2020 Results: by 1.09.2020 Residence: September 2020 WHOM DO WE INVITE? The recruitment is addressed to visual artists, designers, architects and researchers of various fields living, born, studying or creating in one of the three cities: Wroclaw, Chemnitz, Tbilisi. WHAT DO WE PROVIDE? ▪ residency in Wrocław (Poland) for 3 to 5 members (15.09-15.10), ▪ accommodation in Wrocław in apartment in the very city center, ▪ per diems in the amount of EUR 600,00 gross, ▪ coverage of travel expenses; ▪ production budget in the amount of EUR 200,00 gross; ▪ experts program, ▪ substantive, networking, production and promotional support for the project.
