Seminarium projektowe "From voice to visual" Ira Yeroshko

On May 21, 6 pm (Warsaw time), Ira Yeroshko from the Luxembourgish part of the U-CORE project will discuss the animation she produced based on the material gathered within the project. This talk will address the process of translating an oral history interview into the short animated documentary, focusing on the challenges of selecting and reducing a three-hour testimony into a twelve-minute film. It will examine the narrative, ethical, and interpretative decisions involved in this transformation. The presentation will also explore the possibilities animation offers for engaging with experiences of war, and consider whether such visual reinterpretations can be approached as historical sources in ways comparable to oral testimony. Bio: Ira Yeroshko is a curator and visual artist, currently conducting doctoral research at the University of Luxembourg, working at the intersection of visual culture, memory studies, and the representation of war. Her research examines how the Russian invasion of Ukraine is mediated through artistic and digital storytelling, with a particular focus on testimony and visualization. She is currently producing the short animated documentary, created in collaboration with Ukrainian artists and based on an oral testimony from U-CORE collection. Her thesis combines academic research with creative practice, exploring the role of visual media in shaping narratives of Russia-Ukraine war.
