Guided tour in English 🇬🇧 Hansen House in Szumin
Opis
The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw: Guided tours in English The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to guided tours in English of the Zofia and Oskar Hansen House in Szumin-a unique landmark on the map of 20th-century Polish architecture. This modest summer house, built on a plot overlooking the Bug River, blends the qualities of a family sanctuary with a spatial experiment. 🏡 The Architects and Their Vision Zofia and Oskar Hansen-a pair of architects associated with the Warsaw Housing Cooperative and creators of the Open Form concept-designed this house as a space for living, working, and teaching. They spent their holidays here, hosting guests and students. The house in Szumin served as their garden, studio, and eventually their year-round home, acting as a small-scale manifesto of their architectural philosophy. ✍️ The Hansens are renowned for designing major housing estates in Warsaw (Rakowiec, Przyczółek Grochowski) and Lublin (LSM Słowackiego Estate). Oskar Hansen also designed exhibition pavilions in Izmir (1955) and São Paulo (1959). Their work seamlessly integrated design practice with educational and theoretical pursuits. The Open Form Concept According to the Open Form concept, architecture should not impose a rigid structure but rather provide a framework open to change, cooperation, and the individual needs of its users. The house in Szumin was built to embody these principles-reacting to life, evolving alongside it, and remaining open to people and the relationships between them. 🏡 Visiting the House Since 2014, the house in Szumin has been a branch of the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw. The interior preserves its original furnishings, spatial layout, and numerous teaching tools that demonstrate how architecture can shape everyday life. The unique atmosphere is defined by the traces of its former inhabitants: Teaching instruments for learning the basics of composition placed around the house. A wooden dovecote, which Zofia Hansen jokingly referred to as her husband's most perfect work. This is the only opportunity this season to visit the house. Tours are led by the Museum of Modern Art team, offering insight into the history of the home, its unique solutions, and the personal dimension of its architecture. 🎟️ Tickets Please check ticket availability before your visit! Tickets can be purchased online or at the Museum box office at Marszałkowska 103. ‼️ Important: Tickets must be purchased before arriving in Szumin (preferably online). There is no ticket office on-site. If you arrive without a pre-purchased ticket, you will not be able to tour the house.
