Many of these limitations are held in the body - which includes the internal movements of the breath and the vibrations and shaping of the voice. By putting the body at the complete disposal of the breath - breath guided by lively and varied impulses - we can expand into previously unknown imaginative landscapes, accessing the depth and breadth of humanity held in classical texts and modern poetry. The voice spoken from those landscapes then faithfully carries and lands that experience. A workshop for anyone interested in awakening a fully embodied response to impulse: breath, voice, body. You don't move: you are moved. Participants will experience a series of exercises developed by Kristin Linklater for the voice practitioner, designed to freely and loosely activate the whole body through imagery in contact with breath and voice. While no previous experience with the Linklater progression is necessary, these exercises were originally conceived to carry those who have begun to free tensions and rehabilitate their voices from modern language into classical text and poetry: accessing the natural power and fine sensitivities of the breath in order to move the body, both internally and externally, and the voice, from open sound into specific shapes of sound according to language and accent. About workshop leader: Alyssa Ciccarello holds a BFA in Theatre from the Experimental Theatre Wing at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and is a certified Linklater teacher, teaching voice internationally since 2005. In the U.S., she has taught at NYU, the Actor's Studio MFA program, Fordham University, Terry Knickerbocker's Meisner Studio, and served as Head of Voice and Speech at Maggie Flanigan Studio in Chelsea, NYC. Since 2015, she has lived in Barcelona, collaborating with many different institutions and training programs, including IESE and ESADE business schools, Insitut del Teatre and IAB in Catalunya, and CERN in Geneva. She develops original workshops for a wide range of professionals in English, Spanish, and Catalan, and continues to explore actor training in intercultural and multilingual contexts. She is a voice and dialect coach for both stage and screen, and is a teacher on the MFA program for Linklater teachers from Rose Bruford College in the UK. FOR WHOM: These two days are for actors, performers, singers, and anyone desiring more expressivity in their speaking or more sensitivity in their listening. Participants will find more ease and flow in their speaking, will discover richer and previously unknown colors in their expressivity, and come to a deeper and more authentic connection to individual, original impulses. PREPARATION: TEXT - Participants should bring a short poem, a poem fragment, or classical text. 8 - 10 lines. Please do not memorize, but have a hand-written copy available. Any language native to you is acceptable; no translations necessary.
